Ghana to License and Regulate Cryptocurrency Platforms
Ghana is taking decisive steps to formalize its cryptocurrency sector with new licensing and regulatory frameworks. The Bank of Ghana will mandate registration for crypto exchanges and wallet providers, enforcing compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) protocols. Draft legislation is slated for release by September 2025.
The MOVE signals Ghana's ambition to become a regional fintech leader while safeguarding consumers and curbing illicit financial activity. By bringing transparency to the digital asset space, the government aims to foster responsible growth in a market that has operated largely unchecked until now.
